Some of the Best CSS Resources on the Web
Jan 6th, 2008 by admin

Design professionals once ignored CSS, chalking it up to nothing more than a fad that would eventually fade into the background. Over time, its ease of use and wealth of design applications have made it the new favorite of media designers everywhere. If you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon yet, what are you waiting for? Here we take a look at six of the best beginner CSS resources available on the web.
The reading is dry, but if you’re serious about learning CSS this is your first and best place to start. This is the official CSS manual. The easiest way to use this resource is to practice while you are reading so that you can transform that technical language into practical application.
This is a more approachable guide to CSS basic, along with a few easy-to-follow tutorials.
The Noodle Incident’s CSS Panic Guide

What’s with the nasty John McCain ad on this post?
I am agreed wth your mind~ Yes, It is very useful~ Thanks.
See it again!
where the hell is CSSPlay on your list?
www.cssplay.co.uk
These are great resources for any beginner to advanced Designer!
Actually, I would discourage anyone that is just starting with CSS to read the specifications. They are in no way a manual; they’re technical documents (hence, specifications) made for browsers developers to read on how to implement CSS. However for more experienced designers it offers a wealth of information on why certain parts of css work how they work.
For the rest, a pretty good list, though I’d add cssplay.co.uk as well!
The Design Rant is quite poorly written, not to mention very old. Other than that, not a bad start on a list.

Honestly, my involvement with CSS and front-end coding has been one of the best things that have ever happened to me. I started out with CSS about five years ago after being inspired by the CSS Zen Garden. From there, A List Apart became a wonderful philosophical and practical reference. The CSS Beauty Skillshare forum is another valuable resource where everyone from beginners to advanced coders share insights on everything from best practices to bug fixes.

How in the *hell* did this get front page on Digg? This is pure crap.
Tables are faster to develop with, more scalable and more suitable for the placement of images on web pages.

Also unsure why this is being Dugg. Are there that many diggers on today that have just started to learn CSS? Or is there something else going on here? The quality of the Digg results are slowly declining.

These are some great suggestions! I’m currently in the process of designing a unique layout for a client’s website, but need a quality, somewhat out of the ordinary layout that I can use in the mean time. I’m sure something on one of these sites will work.
Thanks again!
Good list. Thanks.

Great post - there definitely is an uprising of nice, clean design with bold use of colour at the minute - especially since the introduction of css. It appears designers have now realised that making content easier to access rather than putting obstacles in their way actually increased satisfaction - of course, they have to look great as well.
