With the discovery of several underwater cities and monuments that have been submerged in the depths of the ocean for thousands of years, the number of people who believe that there could be a mega tsunami has increased significantly. This mega tsunami would be quite similar to what marked the end of the ice age, quite abruptly! Besides, due to global warming and the endlessly melting icecaps, more and more people have come to the conclusion that judgment day is imminent. Some people around the world think that the flood of Noah, the Deucalian flood and all the other floods that destroyed vast kingdoms like Atlantis happened in a series; and that this could happen again!

However, moving on without worrying too much about what might ultimately destroy our civilization, the remains of another underwater city was discovered in the Gulf of Cambay, also known as the Gulf of Khambhat in India. This underwater city is located in close proximity to the western coast of the Indian Subcontinent. The remains of the city were accidentally discovered by a team of oceanographers.

The remains of the city were found almost one hundred and twenty feet, or thirty-six meters underwater. After which, some specimens were sent to a laboratory for carbon dating. The results showed that the remains were almost nine thousand-five hundred years old. This means that the city is one of the oldest to have been discovered underwater.

According to Tom Housden of BBC, the discovery of the nine thousand-five hundred year old city could radically affect the views of some historians and archaeologists.

The city is supposed to be almost five miles long and two miles wide, and was discovered when a team of oceanographers from an institute in India were surveying the waters and its pollution level with a sonar side scan. When the sonar beam was sent into the waters, it detected a huge structure that was geometrical in shape.

The specimen samples from the site that were used for carbon dating consisted of materials such as beads, human bones, teeth, pottery, part of a wall and several other items.

The city is older than the Harappan Civilization and according to marine archeologists, the remains of the city still consists of standing structures. Also, archeologists have confirmed that the foundation of the structure of the vast city is enormous in itself. The city also consists of several manmade structures that are rather massive.

However, the discovery of the city seems to have caused a certain amount of disruption among the archaeological circle. This is because archeologists hold a completely different view of the ancient world regarding the fact that the origin of mankind would have to be completely altered.

Besides, there were almost no signs of early civilizations in this part of the world. However, since the civilization lies so deep underwater, the task of finding out more about the culture of the civilization seems to be a treacherous one.

Like other major discoveries, the finding is accompanied with a significant controversy. The discovery of this particular city has led to the development of several different scientific opinions. There are several archeologists who attest that the structures found in the city are nothing more than simple rock formations. Others maintain that the equipment and techniques that have been utilized for research are faulty. It is distinctly possible that the artifacts found on the site could have been left over from a ship wreck. Nevertheless, the articles are certainly nine thousand-five hundred years old.

However, amidst all of the different theories that various archeologists have offered, several scholars supporting Vedic sciences claim that there is enough evidence supporting existence of the city. One of these scholars is the venerable Graham Hancock. If it was scientifically proved that the city was legitimate, then it would probably mean that the Vedic people, who resided in India, lived here as well. This would radically alter the model of origin and also greatly affect basic Indian history. Besides, world history would have to be altered, because the oldest civilization in the world would not be this Indian civilization instead of Sumerian or the Egyptians.

The remains of the city were discovered in the year 2000. Since then, strong efforts have been made to find out more about the submerged city. There are several archeologists who are using modern techniques to determine exactly how old the city is. However, the most difficult aspect of this case is that, since these artifacts and structures have remained under water for several thousand years, sediments have collected on the surface of the artifacts. This makes it extremely difficult to find out precise information regarding the artifacts. However, new techniques such as XRD analysis are being incorporated into the research process.

Though the city is no larger than the entire Harappan civilization, the fact remains that it is much older. As more and more research is conducted on the underwater city, thoroughly investigated facts and clearer images of the city have emerged. However, the city is more than nine thousand years old, which seems to astonish people around the world. The level of surprise is similar to that of the pyramids that were found in Japanese waters.

All of these recent discoveries only hint at the fact that more profound and developed civilizations existed than we currently believe, even in the ice age. As mysterious as it may sound, not all these discoveries can be faulty ones.

Besides, there have been several temples and other structures that were discovered in oceans all over the world. From Japan to Cuba, these recent discoveries help to prove that there were a number of advanced societies that existed more than ten thousand years back. However, these discoveries also prove that the abrupt end of these civilizations could be repeated.
