Despite not having prepared a formal will before his untimely death, Payne had previously made clear his intentions regarding his estate. His former partner Cheryl Tweedy, with whom he shares son Bear, has been appointed to administer the singer's estate alongside a lawyer to ensure their son inherits his father's wealth.
